Many of the big high street banks in the UK still invest in fossil fuel industries like coal, oil and gas. You could change to a bank that has a low carbon footprint or better environmental policies.
The Co-op Bank is the only High Street bank that does not invest in the fossil fuel industry and is carbon neutral. For internet ONLY banking, there is Triodos Bank, who now also issue debit cards.
Alternatively, you can switch from a bank to a Building Society. They have full banking facilities and they only invest money in the building industry.Additionally, there are several small eco banks that are only online:
If you do decide to switch to a more eco-friendly bank, it would be worth writing a letter to your old bank or completing one of their online forms/surveys explaining that you have left them because their policies are bad for the environment. This could help encourage more banks to move towards better environmental policies.
